Quality Wine For Your Reading Pleasure

Wine That Goes Well With Crock Pot Meals...Really

You probably use your crock pot for holiday open-houses and everyday meals. But did you know that there are many meals you can create in your crock pot that are divine when served to company? And, depending on whether your meal is chicken or red meat, there are plenty of wines out there that will fit the bill. This week we're going to be discussing a nice red Spanish Tempranillo. My favorite is the Torres 2002, but there are many fine vintages that are equally as good.
While most people don't think about crock pot foods as being "special" enough for company, you'd be surprised how truly elegant these meals are. For starters, try this heavenly meal, Crockpot Goulash. Made with beef and vegetables, it satisfies even the heartiest appetite and still tastes like you spent hours on it.

Ingredients

1 medium onion, diced
2 large potatoes, cut in bite size chunks
1 lb. of ground beef thawed (or other meat)
1 can of corn with juice (or other veggie)
1 can of peas with juice (or other veggie)
1 can of condensed tomato soup
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Cut raw potatoes and place in crock-pot. Next, add meat. Then add onion. Next, add both cans of vegetables with juice. Can of tomato soup on top cover, heat on high for an hour. Stir mixture well. Let simmer for at least 2 more hours, stirring occasionally. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve by itself, over rice or noodles. Kids love it!

You can also try your Tempranillo with:

Coca-Cola Steak
Crockpot Bavarian Roast
Beef Brisket
Outlaw Dinner

And energetic as it is, Tempranillo also manages to be light enough to serve with pork dishes such as Best Ever Crockpot Pork Chops:

You can also pair it with a great Mexican dish such as Crockpot-Pulled Pork Fajitas:

Combine this delicious slow-cooked, shredded pork with sliced bell peppers and onions for the best fajitas.

Ingredients

1 2 1/2 lb. pork boneless loin roast
1 medium onion -- thinly sliced
2 C. barbecue sauce
3/4 C. salsa
3 Tbs. chili powder
1 Tbs. Mexican seasoning
9 flour tortillas

Directions

Remove excess fat from pork. Place pork in 3 1/2 to 6 quart slow cooker; arrange onion on top. Mix remaining ingredients except tortillas; pour over pork. Cover and cook on low heat setting 8 to 10 hours or until pork is very tender. Remove pork; place on large plate. Use 2 forks to pull pork into shreds. Pour sauce into bowl; stir in pork. Spoon filling onto tortillas; roll up.

Crockpot Mexican Fiesta
Excellent Mexican Chili

Also holding up well to this wine are:

BBQ Country Ribs
Pork Chops Supreme

And how about these fine dishes that you can make in a crock pot but taste and look good enough to serve to company.

Crockpot Mock Prime Rib
Roast Beef & Gravy
Crockpot Tender Roast

I found this great wine at Sam's Club. However, if you are unable to find a Tempranillo, you can always try serving these dishes with a Chianti or other full-bodied red. Until next week, remember, a crockpot meal isn't just for family meals anymore.

For someone like me whose job it is to taste wine regularly (practically every day) the idea of having a glass of Merlot or virtually any other variety open in my office doesn't raise any eyebrows among colleagues or management, but millions of Americans generally can't have a glass of wine until 6PM at the earliest or they reach 21 years old. I just learned of a new product on the market called First Blush Juice that was mentioned on Springwise, a database of entreprenurial ideas, that offer

We have all heard this advice before. No matter how wonderful togetherness feels in a relationship, it is still crucial for partners to take time for themselves. There is simply no way that a man or a woman can fulfill all of their partner's needs; it's just impossible to do. Too often people will give up a favorite hobby, sport or pastime in the beginning of a relationship in order to devote more time and energy to making the relationship work. But, what happens down the road when one or both p

April 2008 - California Wines

Today's California Wines Article

Wine 101

I am sure that there are many people who will say that they know everything there is to know about wines. Unfortunately unless you are a wine aficionado, a wine grower or an expert in wine tasting you will have a very limited idea of the many differences that are present in
wines. This is quite alright as many of us just drink the various wines that we have without thinking any further. To help us learn more about wines we can take a small tour called wine 101.

This tour will just touch on a few ideas in wines. To get more information you can visit wineries and ask questions from their tour guides, look for the information that you require on the internet, read some books on wine tasting and other subjects. These are just
introductions into the many differences that you will find as you ample different wines.

In wine 101 the first thing that you will have to understand is that red wines have a different taste from white wines and you will need to taste these to learn the various differences. Once you have accepted this fact you will need to look for a few white wines and red wines in which to conduct your wine 101 class.

The next step in the tasting of the wine 101 is to pour some wine into a glass. Swirl the wine in the glass so that the wine and all of the substances in the wine have a chance to meld. You will need to hold the wine up to the light and see how long it takes for the leg of the wine to pour back into the bottom of the glass. The legs of the wine will tell you about the quality of the wine.

The next stage in wine 101 is to smell the wine. Here you will need to first take a quick sniff. From this sniff you should try and identify the various flavors that may be present in the wine. Once you have decided what these flavors might be, you should swirl the wine once more so that everything is once again thoroughly mixed together.

You must be prepared to step into the next part of wine 101. This is where you will take a small sip of the wine, hold it for a few minutes and savor all of the flavors. When these flavors are present in your mouth the wine should be allowed to slide into your waiting throat. Now savor the full taste of your glass of wine.

California Wines in the news

A Winery Wedding

Sun, 20 Apr 2008 13:00:42 PDT
This past Saturday I went to visit a college friend in New Brunswick, New Jersey. It was such a gorgeous day outside, so we decided to take a ride out to a local winery for a tasting. Now, you might not think that New Jersey is prime real estate for a winery (you Californians, stop laughing….), but I was pleasantly surprised at how sweet the Silver Decoy Winery in East Windsor was. It was started in 2001 by a group of friends who now host free wine tastings on weekends. Our gracious and incred

Sonoma, California: Where local food matters

Sun, 20 Apr 2008 17:16:24 PDT
Sondra Bernstein shocked Sonoma 10 years ago with her tiny, Cab-free restaurant, the Girl & the Fig. No Chardonnay even -- just Rhône wines (many locally grown and made) and a gutsy southern French menu fashioned out of the county's bounty. And at nearby Cafe La Haye, John McReynolds and Saul Gropman had started turning out stellar California-French dishes in a kitchen they could reach across.

Proof! Wine Health Benefits

In the past 10-15 years, many researches have been conducted on Wine health benefits on our healthy lifestyle, or not so healthy life style. They have all concluded that Red Wine in particular have enormous benefits on our cardiovascular system and to a lesser extent on other bodily systems.

These researches have shown that flavonoids and antioxidant, is present in abundance in Red wine. Flavonoids reduced the risk of heart disease by controlling our cholesterol levels.

As mentioned before, moderate consumption of Wine has other health benefits to other parts of the body. Wine health benefits have been shown to extend to fighting cancer and other degenerative disease. Present in the skin of grapes is a substance called resveratrol, it has been shown to extend life in the lab, and it also has tumor inhibiting activities on some cancers.

Wine health benefits have been around for a long time. Even heard of the "French paradox", well it goes like this, a news report on French lifestyle brought to our attention the fact the French diet is rich in meat, cheese, butter and other high cholesterol foods, but yet their rate of heart disease and death associated with heart disease is considerably lower than elsewhere in the world.

Do the French know something that others do not know - maybe not. But they also consume allot of wine, and this is believed to be the cause of the lower heart disease rate.

Should you move to France? I don't know, but you can try to consume a glass of wine when you eat. Preferably red wine, it is good for you and it seem to have more of the health benefits than others.

Cheers to you health

Part IV in Series on Measuring Engagement When working with some of our largest clients to quantify the value of their sites, I found myself repeatedly evaluating sites whose primary function business owners described as "branding." Since they'd spent money (often quite a bit) building and maintaining these sites, they not unreasonably wanted to know what their value was. It's a tough question but not a foolish one. Why should we care about brand value? I know that most direct marketers and
